B&G are proud to showcase the latest marine electronics for sailing at Southampton Boat Show

Southampton, UK – B&G, the world’s leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist are pleased to announce they will be exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show this year, in Ocean Hall on stand number J372.  There will be a vast range of electronics on show including the latest technologies designed for both cruising and racing. New products include the V60-B mid-level VHF radio, the first B&G VHF radio with the capability to send and receive AIS position data, and the WS700 a new vertical wind sensor designed for race yachts and larger cruising yachts.

V60-B

The V60-B has a large screen, intuitive interface, built-in AIS Class B Transceiver, a front-mountable, mechanical design for easy installation and optional H60 wireless handsets with inductive charging. The AIS transceiver built into the V60-B can receive position data from other vessels like the original V60, but it is also capable of sharing its position with nearby AIS-equipped vessels, improving situational awareness and collision avoidance. Position data is clearly viewable on the V60-B screen and can be overlaid on top of a chart or radar through a compatible chartplotter. Share location details and keep track of up to five friends using Track Buddy, which requests the location of another VHF radio when the MMSI is entered into the VHF contact list.

WS700

At the core of the WS700 sensor are new electronics that enable accurate measurements of wind angle and speed. The measurement error is under ±0.5° for wind direction and ±0.2 for wind speed. Highly accurate wind speed and angle data is strategically important when racing in a regatta, but equally so for solo offshore sailors who depend on precise wind input for the autopilot to get the best steer-to-wind performance. The aerodynamic design of the WS700 allows for smooth airflow and reduces the effect of turbulence around the body, to maintain data accuracy. The design was optimized following more than 500 hours of wind tunnel testing and more than 200,000 hours on the water, under various conditions.

Vulcan

The B&G Vulcan is a great value sailing chartplotter designed for coastal cruising and club racing. This easy-to-use, intuitive 7-inch multi-touch screen is packed with B&G’s unique sailing features including SailSteer and RacePanel. Simply integrate with your existing system, expansion is simple as Vulcan is NMEA 2000®, Broadband Radar™, ForwardScan™ and autopilot ready; and features built-in 10Hz GPS and Wi-Fi.

All of our B&G products are compatible with C-MAP charts, visit stand J372 to see the latest improvements including new port plans, improved visibility at higher zoom levels, high-resolution Bathymetry and Genesis layer overlay.

B&G are also thrilled to be joined by brand ambassadors Dan and Kika ‘Sailing Uma’; a couple who quit their jobs to travel the world on a 1972 Pearson 36 named “Uma”. A year on from originally meeting B&G at the show, Uma has undergone a full electronics refit. They have already had their fair share of adventures, from the Haiti cup to the blue waters of the Bahamas and now to Southampton. B&G are excited to hear about what they have planned next; their boat will be at berth number M367.

B&G are also excited to announce that Dawn Ramsay, UK Country Manager and acting COO for Europe, will be a key speaker at the Women in Marine Reception, an event created to inspire young people and offer advice to those wishing to pursue a career in the industry. Dawn has over 35 years of experience and service in marine, awarded the Woman in the British Marine Industry 2018 at the MTA dinner in March, Dawn will be sharing an insight into her career from where she began at Autohelm on the assembly line to where she is today.

In addition to the vast array of products on show, B&G are also pleased to be joined by official drinks partner Mermaid Gin, serving up a number of gin based cocktails, so make sure you stop by the stand to enjoy a beverage while you speak to one of the team.
